One in ten are allergic to cats suffering from itching, sneezing and watering eyes, which may soon be a thing of the past as researchers are developing a vaccine for providing long-term protection against these symptoms.

Early trials have found the product to be safe, effective and longer lasting than current treatments that also have serious side-effects.

If, further trials of the vaccine prove successful, the scientists hope they will be able to develop similar products for millions suffering from hay fever and other allergies. However, experts warn this may prove more difficult.
