UNSC Membership Bid BY India Supported by Britain and France
Britain and France have shown their support for India's case for permanent membership of the UN Security Council and favored deepening of joint ties between them. The support from nations came during a joint conference the new British Prime Minister, David Cameron and French President, Nicolas Sarkozy had with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, late last night prior to the G20 Summit.
This was the foremost conference Singh had with Cameron after his election, as British Prime Minister and felicitated him on his triumph.
Singh extended to him an invite to visit India, which he abruptly accepted and would be visiting India in the month of July.
Cameron had paid a visit to India in 2006, as a leader of opposition.
Prime Minister Singh told him that he was eager to welcome Cameron's visit to India.
India and Britain had raised their joint association to a strategic partnership level in 2006 and both the leaders settled on the thought that there was huge potential to expand the association in trade and human resource development.
Trade between the two nations is expected at USD 13 billion and the UK is the fourth leading single shareholder in India.
India also, has substantial investment in Britain. The British Prime Minister said that he would greet more Indian students to visit Britain for studies.
