Volkswagen planning a car below Polo with Maruti
The leading German auto major, Volkswagen India is very keen on roping in Maruti Suzuki for developing an all-new small car below the Polo. In fact, the alliance comes as an offshoot from the deal that Volkswagen announced a couple of months ago, under which the company purchased a 19.2% stake in Japan's Suzuki Motor Corporation.
And as Maruti Suzuki is a fully owned subsidiary of the Japanese automaker, it is believed that Volkswagen may like bring synergy in the operation now or later.
Volkswagen Group's board member Christian Klingler recently said that the company is looking at a long list of joint projects with Suzuki at this moment and the decision will be taken in the due course of time.
While the in-charge of the VW group's global sales and marketing operations made this announcement while he was here in the capital to unveil the sedan Vento in the Indian market, he also said that the company has started work on developing a new small car that would be placed below the Polo in pricing and may take the help of Suzuki in developing that product as the Japanese company has a lot of experience of making hatchbacks in its bag.
