Bihar Bandh Sees RJD, LJP Chiefs Arrested
Bihar police have informed that Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) Chief Lalu Prasad and Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) Chief Ram Vilas Paswan have been arrested in Patna on Saturday, as they staged demonstration over the streets under a full day shutdown observed in the state opposing the recent increment in fuel prices.
The Bandh affected the transportation in the state the most.
Carrying party flags and reciting slogans the two leaders took to the streets protesting with numerous party members and followers at Dak Bungalow Square in the center of Patna.
Paswan was arrested, in addition to his party legislators and members for creating transit camp, told a police official.
Lalu Prasad, who travelled to Patna from New Delhi on Saturday afternoon, joined the rally. He was also arrested.
Ahead of being arrested, he prompted the party workers to carry on the protests opposing the fuel prices hike.
The party workers halted the passage of numerous trains scheduled to cover long distances at Patna, Gaya, Jehanabad, Hajipur, Bhagalpur and Darbhanga railway stations.
"Train services have been badly disrupted due to the shutdown since Saturday morning, leaving hundreds stranded at railway stations", said an East Central Railway official.
