Garuda Mall Owner Files Nomination for RS from Bihar
Uday B Garudachar, a Karnataka-based Industrialist, in a surprising move, has filled his nomination papers for Rajya Sabha seat as an independent candidate from Bihar. Garudachar is the owner of Bangalore’s famous Garuda Mall. He is the sixth candidate filing nomination for the five RS seats from Bihar.
Garudachar’s reason for filing nomination from Bihar seems to be quite noble. Justifying his act of filing nomination from Bihar, Garudachar told Indian Express that Bihar is a state that requires a lot of investment. He also said that he can contribute to Bihar’s growth with more investment.
Uday Garudachar filed his nomination papers in the presence of 10 MLAs. Dadan Pehalwan, an Independent MLA, proposed the industrialist’s name for the seat.
The industrialist is supported by 36 MLAS, which consist of 11 independent MLAs, 10 Congress MLAs, five from BSP and CPIML, four from CPI and CPI(M). Other than this number, there are additional votes from NDA alliance partners for Uday.
Migration of industrialist from one state to another for a RS seat is, however, not a new phenomenon. Shibu Soren’s Jharkhand Mukti Morcha has also made K D Singh, a Chandigarh-based millionaire, its RS candidate. Parimal Nathwani is another Independent RS representative from Jharkhand. She is the President of Reliance Industries limited.
