The spate of controversies continues for Common wealth games
Surrounded by innumerable controversies including the infrastructure glitches the common wealth games to be held in Delhi is yet again facing the wrath of it. This time the reason is the absence of many top athletes missing the game.
The name of the athletes saying no to the CWG includes stalwarts of the sports like Usain Bolt, Asafa Powell, Lleyton Hewitt, Shelly Ann Fraser and Chris Hoy.
However the sports Minister, MS gill maintained that generally for the Olympics, performance of the sportsman if other games, like Asian Games and European championships is considered but unfortunately the same weightage is not given to the common wealth games. He sports minister even requested CGF President Mike Fennell to make an attempt to bring these champions to India in place of an army of officials.
On the other hand, Indian Olympic Association (IOA), President, Suresh Kalmadi, stated that the sports minister should not blow the event out of proportion as India has spend mammoth amount to host the events and its world class stadiums will match the best of the lot.
He also further mentioned that it hardly matters if few sportsmen skipped the event as in this CWG new records by the sportsman shall be created from all parts of the world.
