Tough draw for Bopanna, Somdev

Submitted by Satish Goel on Sat, 10/02/2010 - 09:55

After their Davis Cup, heroics make sure that India's entry into the elite World Group, Rohan Bopanna and Somdev Devvarman will have another load to stand when they step on to the court during the Commonwealth Games. Besides, Bopanna has a strong road further on in the singles as well, making it a dual whammy for him.

On Friday the tennis draw for the Games has put Bopanna and Devvarman in a tough group in their search for a medal finish. In the very first round the duet will be up aligned with a strong doubles pair of Jamie Murray and Colin Fleming from Scotland. In singles, in the second round Bopanna is likely to run into second seed Peter Luczak of Australia.

On the other hand, the top seed duo of Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi are expected to have a comparatively smooth sailing at least till the semi-finals, whereas in singles, Devvarman number one seed is also likely to have it easy till the last four stages of the Games.
