Betting kingpin loses gamble against Luck

Submitted by Surbhi Garg on Sun, 12/12/2010 - 08:28

Dinesh Thakkar aka Dinesh Kalgi, who has been accused of being the kingpin of a gambling racket, got nabbed by the Ahmedabad City Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) on Friday, for being connected with a case of gambling. He was a wanted person regarding this case, but had successfully been evading arrest up till now.

The DCB had busted a betting racket in the Navrangpura area earlier on 31st October, which was alleged to being held at Kalgi's behest. Kalgi had been brought in the Ahmadabad Metropolitan Court with the DCB demanding his custody for two weeks. However, he was granted bail by the court.

Now, though Kalgi's luck ran out as he got sent to Jamnagar District Jail under the order of the Ahmadabad Police Commissioner according to the provisions of the Prevention of Anti Social Activities Act (PASA).

As told by the DCB police inspector M D Chaudhary following the court's bail order, a suggestion was made to place Kalgi in jail according to the provisions of the PASA.

He further added that four cases of gambling are still pending against him in the city of Ahmadabad. And therefore the order for him being jailed was passed.
