Afridi’s captainship under threat
After the first One-day International at Wellington, between Pakistan and New Zealand, the pressure is increasing on the Pakistani Cricket Team. Shahid Afridi is the captain and also the senior most player of the Pakistani Cricket Team.
Because of different reasons, Afridi was not able to lift up the event as his team was bowled over for a worthless 124 runs. His team wrapped up giving a chance of an easy victory of 9 wickets to New Zealand.
Afridi approached towards the crease after Pakistan lost their top 5 best batsman at only 57. It was expected that this flamboyant all-rounder will build up the runs and bring back the falling rhythm of the scores with Misbah-ul-Haq, his vice-captain.
But all the dreams vanished in few minutes when these players just added 31 runs as a partnership and Pakistan lost the wicket of Afridi.
Tim Southee made Afridi as his fifth victim when he was playing his 29th ball. He just managed to score 15 runs before he returned to pavilion. This performance can add a red mark in his carrier of PCB (Pakistan Cricket Board) and create an option of making Misbah as the new captain in the forthcoming World Cup 2011.
