Nissan to heavily source components from India
Apart from being committed to the Indian consumer to gain ground in the Indian automobile market, the Japanese automaker, Nissan is also looking at the Indian market to source heavily in order to get the low-cost advantage among its models.
According to Kiminobu Tokuyama, MD, Nissan India, the company will source components worth $40 million (Rs 188 crore) a year from India by 2012.
Moreover, Tokuyama also highlighted the fact that the company will be sourcing components with $10 million from the Indian market in this year alone.
The company has plans to source close to 35,000 units of A-Star from Maruti Suzuki. It may be noted here that the company sell this product under the Pixo brand in the European market under the Nissan badge. Notably, the company made its bullish of high sourcing at an event where it signed the bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor as its brand ambassador for a period of three years.
Moreover, the company also said that it will be launching the small car Micra in the Indian market in a month's time. The company has received over 400 bookings for Micra so far.
