Full Authority to Legal Team Visiting Pakistan

Submitted by Gurpreet Sekhon on Sat, 04/02/2011 - 13:34

The Centre dismissed speculations that the probe team visiting Pakistan for the evidence of 26/11 would have limited authority.

“Modalities and procedures would have to be worked out. And when we work out the modalities and procedures, please rest assured that I will be mindful of the legal provisions. Obviously I cannot send a team without being mindful of legal provisions,” Union Home Minister P Chidambaram said when asked about reports suggesting that the operation of such a panel appears unlikely under the existing provisions of law.

He also claimed that India has shared and exchanged all possible information regarding the bomb blast in Samjhauta Express.

He quoted that India got positive responses from Pakistan regarding the issues. He also said that both the countries are in a process to improve the visa procedures and that people in the group of journalists, businessmen, senior citizens, and patients would be exempted from tough visa rules.

He also claimed that talks are going towards a positive development between the two countries.

He claimed that the Indian team going for collecting evidence would have full legal jurisdiction. Pakistan has agreed to give full support in connection to 26/11 case. The modality procedures would be soon be finalized and the team would leave for Pakistan.
