Sports marketing firms shying from CWG

Sports marketing firms shying from CWG

Keeping in mind the fact that Commonwealth Games (CWG) are only a few months away but still the major clients of the sports marketing companies are not queuing up to grab its share of the advertising pie is surely a sign of worry for the CWG officials.

Be it the sponsorship sales, sponsorship activation, ticketing, corporate hospitality, ceremonies, athlete management or the advertising and communications, many big names are still not keen on participating in this event. Indranil Blah, sports head, Kwan said that as the event has been surrounded with many controversies ranging from political interference and being over-budget, it has kept many companies on the fence.

However, Blah highlighted the fact that he has got inquiries from a mobile handset manufacturer, a mobile operator and an FMCG company to explore marketing opportunities for the tournament but nothing has been finalized yet. Keeping in mind the fact that the CWG officials expect to bank over Rs 1,600 crore from brands participating in the Games alone, it is believed a lot of deals will be signed as the starting date comes near.
