Submitted by Satish Goel on Tue, 06/15/2010 - 15:39

Mr. V.K.Verma has been re-elected as president of the Badminton Association of India (BAI). According to the Indian Olympic Association secretary general Randhir Singh, it has been the victory for the "Olympic movement" in India. He has said that the re-election of Mr. Verma indicates the fault of sports ministry.

The ministry has earlier fixed at most 12 years as a fixed tenures for sports administrators. Hence Verma was facing a huge opposition form the ministry on this issue.

But after his re-election, he is going to take this post. He has crossed the tenure limit after winning this election and this is going to be his fourth term.

Apart form that, BAI has also confirmed that it is not going to take any financial aid from the government. Randhir Singh was also the victim of the sports ministry on this tenure issue.

He has said that, the victory is not only for Verma, this is a victory for the Olympic movement in the country. He has congratulated Verma and the badminton fraternity as well for this unanimous victory.
