Toyota planning a R&D Centre for India
The Indian subsidiary of the Japanese car maker Toyota is eying to set up a R&D centre along with an engine plant in the Indian market. Managing Director of Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) Hiroshi Nakagawa said that the company currently does a major chunk of its R&D in places like Japan and Thailand, among the other -places.
Moreover, Nakagawa also said that the company is considering an option of opening an R&D Centre in the Indian market and he is hoping that the proposal will be accepted soon.
Talking to the media on the sidelines of the Karnataka government-organised Global Investors' Meet, Nakagawa also said that if he is given a chance he'll surely establish a engine plant also in the Indian market. But he also highlighted the fact that the engine plant ill only be considered for the Indian market once its unit sales figure cross the 20,000 per month tag.
Notably, the company is looking at a sales target of close to 70,000 units from 55,000 units that the company sold in 2009.
Moreover, it is expected to launch its Etios Sedan by the end of the current year or be early 2011 followed by the hatch version.
