The Indian subsidiary of the American auto major Ford India is aiming at making its products with high local content, according to a top official of the company.
In fact, it may be noted here that with a capacity to manufacture around two lakh units annually, the company currently manufactures hatchback Figo, midsize sedan Ikon, premium sedan Fiesta and premium SUV Endeavour at its manufacturing facility at Maraimalai Nagar.
Moreover, Ford Motor India Managing Director Michael Boneham said that the recently launched Figo has a localized content of over 85% and that's why the company has been able to get it right. Bonham also mentioned the fact that the engines that the company exports to Thailand have over 65 per cent localized content and that demonstrates the potential of manufacturing sector in India.
Notably, close to 1,000 petrol engines with a capacity of 1.4 litre and 1.6 litre high-compression were exported to a firm called AutoAlliance in Thailand.
