The analysis conducted on 2,509 females aged between 45 to 84 years in which 40 percent white, 25 percent black, 22 percent Hispanic and 13 percent Chinese Women. They self-stated their age at menopause or at two-sided oophorectomy; females who didn't report menopause were taken as unexposed to premature menopause. Premature menopause was described as experiencing menopause before the age of 46 years.

Of the whole amount of females, 639 (28 percent) females reported untimely menopause, 247 (10 percent) had premature surgical menopause and 446 (18 percent) had premature usual menopause.
