Azad meets Sebelius to discuss health issues
On Friday for setting the dialogue on the India-US Health Initiative into motion, the Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad met US Secretary (Minister) for Health and Human Services, Kathleen Sebelius.
The meeting reflected that the two nations have partnership with health as the core issue.
Azad during the meeting stated that an oversight mechanism meant to review all collaborative partnerships between USA and India was needed seeing the present scenario.
In context of the Avian and Pandemic Influenza, Azad also called for the need for a strong US position in support of the 'One World One Health' concept.
The minister also stressed on the need of six institutes like AIIMS having a tie with the US medical institutes of excellence being created by the Union government.
Sebelius from her side stated that four working groups should be set up that will serve to engage all relevant parts of each government meant to move ahead the cooperation between the two nations and to establish common goals, the proposal was welcomed by the Indian side.
