Drug abuse takes a leap
Surveys from various cities have stated that drug abuse is on a rise, especially among teenagers. As cities observed that International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking (IDADAIT) on June 26, the fact that people are still taking drugs is a matter of concern.
"Young children and youths are becoming an easy prey to the vicious network of drug peddlers in the region. This network is now spreading even to remote rural areas," said Sanjay Gupta, head, psychiatry department, BHU.
Gupta said that the beginning is from a cigarette puff and then it takes the form of harder drugs that leads you to a point of no return. The reports of the department states that there are five beds meant for de-addiction and for separate treatment of drug abusers. These beda are not seen vacant as someone or the other is always up for treatment. There are other departments that are often asked for help for treating drug abusers.
Drug abusers become unable to take care of themselves and need others to help them and this makes drug abuse a major psychiatry problem. Psycho-biological disorder often happens due to the over occupation of a particular drug habit that interferes the social and interpersonal functioning.
