Tata motors to set up an assembly unit in SA
The country's largest home-grown auto major, Tata Motors has recently announced the fact that the company is working on setting up a trucks assembly unit in South Africa. Notably, the company is planning to open the unit by the end of the current financial year and the company is looking at assembling medium-sized and small trucks there for now.
The India head of the company, P.M. Telang recently said that the company is looking at assembling Medium and small sized trucks at the SA unit. While the company expects that the plant to produce 3,000-4,000 units annually in the South African market it is to be mentioned here that the company currently exports 2,000-3,000 trucks annually to South Africa now.
The automaker currently owns assembly units in places like Thailand and Bangladesh. Ravi Pisharody, its commercial vehicles head said that the company expects the current financial year to be good as far as exports are concerned as there is a revival in demand across markets at the moment.
In fact, the company is also aiming for a a 10-15 per cent rise in domestic truck sales in 2010. Notably, its light CV Ace recently completed five years of its operations in the Indian market and the company is even bullish on its future success in the Indian market.
