Football Fans Sustain Injuries in Warm-up FIFA World Cup Match

Football fever seems to have gripped football fans. A number of fans are planning to go to South Africa, the destination for 2010 FIFA World Cup. The World Cup will start from11th June, 2010. Many newlywed couples have reportedly rescheduled their honeymoon dates to watch the World Cup.

The opening match is scheduled at Johannesburg. 32 teams will participate in the tournament. The teams are divided into eight groups. According to Jerome Valcke, FIFA General Secretary, this year has witnesses a 50% increase in profit compared to the 2006 World Cup held in Germany.

The Citizen newspaper in Johannesburg reported that 20 people were injured in a FIFA World Cup friendly warm up match on Sunday. FIFA and the World Cup local organizing committee in South Africa revealed that they had no link with the operational organization of the 2010 FIFA World Cup. FIFA also said that had no concern with the ticketing of the game between Nigeria and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, where the injuries are reported to have occurred.

News24 in South Africa showed pictures of heavily bleeding fans. The channel also revealed that the heavily bleeding policeman was taken away on a stretcher.

However, FIFA told in a statement to Xinhua that it wished speedy recovery to the injured, which included a policeman and a small child.
